We use the WhatsApp Business Platform (Cloud API) provided free by Meta. Here is what you need to know:

  • Free tier — customer-initiated conversations: When a customer messages your number first, your bot can reply at no charge from Facebook. This is what all our standard bots use by default. No monthly WhatsApp charges.
  • Business-initiated messages (optional & chargeable): If you want to send the first message to a customer — for example, a promotional broadcast or appointment reminder — Facebook charges a per-conversation fee directly to your Meta account. We will notify you clearly before setting this up. This is optional and separate from our fee.
  • Our fee: A once-off setup and development fee. No monthly retainer from Syrup.
  • Hosting: All packages include 1GB web hosting so your bot has a server to run on. If you already have a website with us, we host the bot there.

What We Will Need From You

To build and connect your WhatsApp bot, here is exactly what you need to have ready before we start:

Facebook Business Account
1. A Facebook Business Portfolio

You need a verified Facebook Business Portfolio (Meta Business Suite account) set up in your business name. If you do not have one yet, we can guide you through creating it — it is free.

WhatsApp Business Number
2. A Dedicated WhatsApp Business Number

The phone number must be registered under WhatsApp Business (not a personal WhatsApp account). It should be linked to your Facebook Business Portfolio. This number will be the one customers message.

Add Developer
3. Add Syrup as a Developer

You will add our Facebook Developer account to your Business Portfolio with the required permissions. This allows us to create the app, configure the webhook, and connect the bot — without owning your account.

Website or Hosting
4. A Website / Hosting Server

The bot needs to be hosted on a server to receive and respond to messages. If you already have a website hosted with us, we use that. Otherwise all our bot packages include 1GB hosting to get you set up.

5. Your Bot Content & Responses

You provide us with the questions you want the bot to answer, your business hours, services list, pricing information, and any menu options. We write the logic and build it all together with you.

6. Anydesk (for Remote Setup)

We work remotely across Zimbabwe. We use Anydesk to configure your bot on your machine or server when needed. You are always present and in control during any remote session.

Important — Please Read

Your Account, Your Responsibility

Because the bot runs on your own Facebook Business Portfolio and WhatsApp Business account, it is important you understand the following:

  • You are responsible for your Meta/Facebook account. Facebook has strict policies on WhatsApp Business usage. Any account violations — such as sending unsolicited messages (spam), misleading content, or policy breaches — can result in your number being banned by Meta. This is entirely under your control.
  • Do not use the bot to broadcast to people who have not contacted you first. The free tier (customer-initiated conversations) is safe and compliant. Sending bulk unsolicited messages puts your account at risk — not ours, not the bot's.
  • Business-initiated messaging is opt-in and your choice. If you request this feature, we will set it up but you will be billed directly by Facebook/Meta for each conversation. We will explain the costs clearly before proceeding.
  • We only manage the technical setup. Syrup builds the webhook, app configuration, and bot logic. We do not send messages on your behalf or access your conversations. Your customer data stays on your account.

Once you have provided us with access and your content, setup typically takes 3–7 business days depending on the complexity of your bot. We work remotely via Anydesk, so there is no need for in-person visits. We serve clients across Harare and Zimbabwe.

WhatsApp bans are caused by violations of Meta's policies — most commonly by sending spam or unsolicited bulk messages. We will explain best practices to keep your account safe. Your account is your responsibility, and as long as you follow Meta's usage policies (which we will walk you through), your number will remain in good standing. We will never send messages on your behalf without your direct instruction.
